New DLR Bicycle Shelter picks up ‘Cycling Improvements Award’ at the London Transport Awards – March 2009

DLR was thrilled to have won the Award for ‘Cycling Improvements Award’ sponsored by Transport for London at the recent London Transport Awards held on the 18th March 2009. This is just one of many awards Dockland’s Light Railway has won with regards to these new bespoke Bicycle Shelters.

DLR in 2007 implemented a cycle strategy, which aims to encourage passengers to cycle to its stations and continue their journey via the railway. A key elemetn of thes tratgey a to oplement high quality, consistent parking at all stations acriss the DLR netowrk. The new bicycle shelters’ designed, manfuactured and supplied by Trueform, is the first of many to be installed throughout the DLR network.

The shelters are state of the art, including the following unique features, the shelters have space for 12 cycles undercover, they have solar-powered lighting and covered by CCTV plus they have a ‘public art’ installation, Time and Tide by Alison Turnball.

Trueform provided full end to end design and engineering from initial concept design and development, structural engineering through to production of fully detailed design and production of detailed manuacturing drawings.

The new cycle shelters are the start of a programme for cycle parking across the DLR network and Trueform are looking forward to being apart of this programme in manufacturing and working with DLR in install these shelters. I was also honoured to have been invited to join DLR on their table at the London Transport Awards and to also accept the award with them on the evening”.
